What is UrBackup?

UrBackup is an easy to setup Open Source client/server backup system, that through a combination of image and file backups accomplishes both data safety and a fast restoration time.
File and image backups are made while the system is running without interrupting current processes.
UrBackup also continuously watches folders you want backed up in order to quickly find differences to previous backups. Because of that, incremental file backups are really fast.
Your files can be restored through the web interface, via the client or the Windows Explorer while the backups of drive volumes can be restored with a bootable USB-Stick (bare metal restore).

A web interface makes setting up your own backup server really easy. For a quick impression please look at theĀ screenshots here.

Currently there are over 21,000 running UrBackup server instances (with auto-update enabled) with some instances having hundreds of active clients.

We are still testing, but seems to work once finding the correct share path name (for QNAP is normally /share/[share name]

We have seen minor issues, we have been testing an on one QNAP it doesnt show the Download Client button on the overview page (no idea why). Also if the share space runs out of space it bricks the service, rebooting the NAS will not fix it, need to manually clear some space, restart then delete a few backups in the system and way for the clearup.

Overall i have high hopes once i have cleared up some minor issues, most of which are IUrBackup problems and not related to this specific port on to the NAS, seems to work though …

URBackup for QNAP is an excellent implementation of a very good client/server solution. We create an image backup of all our Windows client devices. I’ve tested restore to bare-metal as well as restore to virtual machine and both worked flawlessly.
